Located in Ningbo City and established in 1992, NINGBO BIRD CO., LTD, a listed hi-tech company under the approval of Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC and Chinese Academy of Sciences, specializes in the development, manufacture and sale of mobile-communication products. The present main products are mobile-phone handset, palm computer, and systematic equipment.

In 1998, BIRD reaches the sale volume of more than one million BP sets, inferior to Motorola in the market in China. In September 1998, BIRD and Ningbo Electronic Information Group reshuffled in their assets , after shares reformation, in April 1999, Ningbo BIRD Co., LTD, a state-holding joint-stock company was established. In April 1999 BIRD emerged on the list of nine domestic companies approved to manufacture handsets in China. In November of the same year, the company passed an authentication by Ministry of Science and Technology and Chinese Academy of Sciences. And in July 2000, BIRD was successfully listed in Shanghai Stock Exchange. From 2000 to 2002, the sales volume of BIRD ranked Top in three consecutive years compared to other domestic brands handsets, based on the statistics from Ministry of Information Industry.
